WAVEMASTER is built as three complete, independent synthesizers rather than a single oscillator stack. Each unit has its own oscillator, envelopes, filter, modulation and output controls. Layer complementary timbres, detune complete voices against one another, or let every unit occupy a different musical role.
The oscillator is designed as a musical continuum. WAVE moves continuously from sine through saw to square; PWM opens variable-width pulse shapes; INTERVAL constructs richer spectra from partials arranged at real musical intervals. The result can begin with something elementary and become harmonically complex without losing its relationship to the note being played.
SHAPE is not a static oscillator parameter. Its own envelope can move the waveform through the life of a note, while dedicated pitch, filter and amplitude envelopes shape the other dimensions independently. Six-point contours provide detailed movement while remaining visible and playable rather than buried in modulation pages.
LOW 24, LOW 12, BAND and HIGH cover the essential subtractive responses. HARMONIC is deliberately different: a resonator structure tuned around musical interval relationships, designed for formant-like colour, bell structures and overtone emphasis rather than simply removing frequencies.
Mod wheel and aftertouch can reach oscillator, shape, filter and amplitude with independent depths, turning performance gestures into part of the patch itself. Two LFOs per unit add tempo-aware movement with multiple waveforms, fade-in and freely combined destinations. Expression is designed into the signal path from the beginning.
The shared effects rack is built as part of WAVEMASTER's sound architecture. Chorus, JUNO I/II, Flanger, Phaser and Rotary provide movement; Stereo, Ping-Pong, Tape and Surround delays create dimension; Room, Plate, Concert, Space and Galactic reverbs define the final environment. The rack can be reordered, so spatial design becomes part of synthesis rather than an afterthought.
Sound design has to survive contact with a real piece of music. Complete units can be copied and pasted, individual layers muted for instant A/B decisions, and virtually every control can learn a hardware MIDI assignment. Presets live in four banks of sixteen slots, and complete banks can be saved and loaded as portable files.
